Review
According to Bob Popovics ground breaking book Pop Fleyes, the eye is the most important feature on a bait fish pattern. If you get the eye wrong or leave it out all together, then according to Bob the number of hookups can be greatly reduced. Most of the adhesive backed eyes you can purchase come from doll making supply houses with only slight modifications to the same eyes found in the toy aisle. The eyes might contain a two-tone holographic backing but all and all the eyes present in a one dimensional manner.
Deer Creek Crystal Eyes
The product development team over at Deer Creek decided to take things a few steps further. Their adhesive eyes can be ordered to match a number of specific species of fish in addition to a wide range of colored eyes for general use. Deer Creek offers eyes to match the following species: bonefish, crappie, sand eel, trout, Ardtic grayling, gruper, perch, rudd, and large mouth bass.
Gator eyes
Deer Creek eyes are sold in two general categories: Gator eyes and Crystal eyes. Both kinds of eyes are available in a wide range of colors and sizes. The Gator eyes are sold by the color and specie specific configurations. Gator eyes do not have "crystals" but feature a lifelike pupal and iris. The pupal is shaped and the iris is shadowed with a marbling effect in the epoxy that captures both the depth and variation of actual fish eyes.
Crystal Eyes
Crystal eyes contain a subtle sparkle that covers the surface of the eyes. Crystal eyes also feature non-round pupal (unlike doll eyes) for a realistic effect. The Crystal eyes are a mix of lifelike features blended with attractor elements, which produce eyes that "pop" and add an extra quality to any pattern.
Deer Creek eyes can be ordered directly from Deer Creek and their is no extra shipping charges for oversea ordering. You can check out the full line of Deer Creek eyes including Gator eyes and Crystal eyes at their website: Deer Creek

Nicely written and informative Matt. Deer Creek did good with these eyes.

Hey Matt, great review. I'd say my favorite target species for these would be bass, though I hope that will change to pike once the ice breaks...
Those are lifelike! I tie streamers mostly for brookies and browns.
Deer Creek Eyes rock, nice review. I fish mainly for bass, these eyes make great additions to my streamers and bugs. pcohen4@nycap.rr.com
Another great review Matt. Thomas Bin (tbin39@gmail.com)

This is a super idea, especially the Gator eyes. Great review too, Matt.
I want to use some on some big streamer patterns for Musky.

The review was great, specially since I dont know much about flies. This may be lost on most who read it but it is funny in my book. I lost the sight in my left eye when I was 14. Needless to say it is the butt of many jokes. So....I think I should get some of the samples as I clearly need them worse than anyone else. Besides they look like they would help catch bass on flies which is my fish of choice.
sorry i think i sent two posts. didnt see the note about approval after the first one. then i dont think i put who i was in the second one. hope you can sort through my junk. thanks Jeff Steenbergen
Nice review, very informative; and great looking eyes. I tie a lot of baitfish patterns and streamers for saltwater and bass

Very good review on the eyes, they have me hooked. I think they would make a lovely addition to my lures I make. Need every advantage to catch those elusive bass I go for.

I think the more realistic you can get the better when it comes to eyes because predators key in on those.
flglov0@hotmail.com
Eyes are the ONE thing nature does not design for camouflage. Example.. some animals actually have fake eyes to draw the predator away from the real thing and give them a chance at getting away. The more realistic the eye, the better the chance the predator will see it. Better eyes, better bites because the eye is an attack point. Get the eyes, get the prey.
Great eyes. They are the most realistic I have seen and I'm old :)
I agree, eyes are important in baitfish patterns. Fish don't see their foods as a whole when feeding but key in on certain aspects that become feeding triggers, one of which is baitfish eyes. I can't wait to try those new eyes.
Looks really realistic compared to ones i"ve seen before !
