Tyger leader material is a nylon coated micro-braided stainless steel leader.  It is available in test strengths ranging from 2 lbs all the way up to 120 lbs.  It also comes in a wide range of colors and can be ordered in spools of 30', 50, and 100'. 

The Review

There are at least a couple of things that set Tyger Leaders apart from the rest.  First, the product range is unmatched.  Tyger leaders has a test lbs. and color to handle every fishing situation you will encounter.  Second, Tyger leader material is soft and can be used to tie any knot you like.  for example you can tie (among others) the following knots:  Uni, double uni, craw, palmer, shear spider hook, rapala, lark, riffling, simplified blood, extension blood, improved blood, dropper, improved clinch, double improved clinch, angler, boulire, albrisht, end loop, simple loop connection, rhode loop, surgeon, double surgeon, single over hand loop, trileue, leader to live uni...


The third feature that sets Tyger Leader material apart from the rest is the nylon coating.  With Tyger leader material you do not even have to tie knots you can simply put a twist in the leader and then melt the nylon coating with a lighter.




The nylon sheath combined with a few twists will hold a fly, two sections of leader together (a great way to connect heavy butt sections to tippets) and you can even form loops for quick change leaders.  It takes about five seconds and the melted twist will hold the full weight of the leader.  I tested the strength by putting a fly in a heavy shop vice and pulled it until something broke.  The 2/0 saltwater hook began to bend out, but the leader held strong! 


Fishing for toothy fish has never been easier.  Although Tyger Leaders can be tied simply, I find myself simply melting the material because its faster.  I can change out pike flies in less than twenty seconds.  Another nice feature of Tyger Leaders is their ability to cut through weeds.  I do a fair amount of bass fishing among Lilly pads, which can be a force of destruction on nylon leaders.  But the 15 lbs. Tyger Leader casts great and will literally cut through underwater vegetation instead of getting hung up or snapping.


In Sum  Tyger Leader products are my "go to" material for toothy fish or in situations where there is heavy weed coverage.  The stainless steel ties like nylon and the nylon coating offers the option of melting your "knot" instead of tying it.  The leaders cast great and are soft enough to allow for a natural presentation.  Additionally the size range and color options are unmatched.  Of all the "bite proof" materials out there I can say that Tyger Leaders are far and away my favorite.
