Cookshill: Asian goat hair

Cookshill Fly Tying

Cookshill Fly Tying is a U.K. based fly tying supplier.  They specialize in natural materials including a number of hard to find skins and feathers.  What sets Cookshill apart from other suppliers is the degree of quality control they use when selecting their materials.  The majority of the materials sold by Cookshill are, "sourced, sorted, selected and packaged by us giving 100% quality control."  Each purchase is backed up with the Cookshill guarantee:   -Our aim is to provide a range of mainly natural materials of the highest quality and at a price that is sensible. We appreciate that the needs of each fly dresser are very individual and your idea of a correct feather size or colour may vary from ours.

Review

Asian goat hair has been used for many years on Scandinavian fly patterns such as the Sunray Shadow.  Asian goat hair is known for its long soft fibers which can reach a length of 6-8 inches.  The hair is thin, which allows tyers to produce long full wings or tails on small flies without adding a lot of bulk.  Asian goat hair, although thin, does not compress much so what you tie in is what you get.

Cookshill offers Asian goat hair in five colors:  black, yellow, orange, blue and red.  The hair comes in a 3" x 3" patch which is more than enough to tie dozens of flies.  The quality is really great!  Its hard to emphasize enough the quality control that goes into Cookshill products.  They are not selling 5000 pieces of goat hair to shops across the country.   Instead, their reputation rests on each piece they stock.  Each patch retails for 3.50£.

Cookshill Asian goat hair is a great product to tie with.  You can easily blend the hair and the length and softness of the fibers add just the right amount of movement in the water.  You can place and order or find out more about the other materials including Seal Fur Dubbing at Cookshill Fly Tying  or by sending an email to: cookshillft@aol.com

Disclosure- Cookshill provided the featured products free of charge for me to review. I was not compensated in any other way for this blog post.
