My favorite dry fly to use around here would have to be the old elk hair caddis. The elk hair caddis was the first dry I ever fished and caught my first trout on, so it holds a close place in my box.

My favorite "dry fly" is the Crackleback. The nice thing about the Crackleback is that you can fish it dry, swing it below you, give it a quick, firm strip to bring it below the surface, then present it as a wet emerger across and down. A very versatile fly, and trout can't resist it. I have caught trout with the Crackleback in the smallest of spring creeks to the big Western waters.

If you want an exclusively dry fly favorite, then it would have to be the Griffiths Gnat for me. With trout in my home waters constantly taking midges year round, the Griffiths Gnat is the "go-to" dry for me.

Thanks for the comment. I believe you can add studs to the new Riverwalkers. The soles should have small circles with a dot in the center where the studs screw into. The studs I have came with the Rock Grip Boots, but you can order the studs from Patagonia. Best of luck!
